| Why purchase an engine block heater? The EBH is mostly an east coast item and it is seasonal. It is a heating element that is mounted in the engine block in a hole designed for it. It heats up the engine prior thus eliminating the need for the ICE to come on to heat up the engine in the morning. For those with short commutes, this can increase your mileage, even in mild climites or in the summer. There are those that use them year round. As you can see from the picture, it does plug in. Now you can have the plug in you've always dreamed of. Maximum efficiency is to turn the ebh on 3 hours prior to driving. For most of us, that means attaching an extension cord to a timer and then running that to the ebh plug. Most people have the plug hanging out the front grill but you can conceal yours. To remember to unplug it in the morning, some people have the extension cord tied to the garage door so that when it opens you see the cord and remember to unplug it. That's what I'll be doing. | ||
| The electric block heater is a seasonal item. The first group buy has already closed with over 107 Priuschatters purchasing an EBH. FireEnegineer (Wayne) is driving across the United States stopping to install them along the way. It's not a hard install and directions are given on the Priuschat website. You can watch Wayne install Mary's EBH on Tuesday, August 21. There will be a second group buy on Priuschat soon. If more than 40 people buy the price will drop to $39.00. However Wayne will not be coming to install your EBH this time around. | ||
