Mom's Eggnog
choose amounts based on how much you want to make
4 6 12 servings 2 3 6 eggs, separated 1/4 1/3 3/4 cups sugar 2/3 1 2 cups milk 2/3 1 2 cups heavy cream, whipped 1/2 3/4 1 1/2 cups whisky or brandy (optional) 1 1 2 TBSP dark rum fresh grated nutmeg Beat egg yolks until very thick. Add sugar all but 1/8 cup of sugar reserving for egg whites. Beat until dissolved. Add milk, then slowly stir in liquors. Refrigerate 4 hours. This "cooks" the eggs. To serve, beat eggs whites until stiff, adding the 1/8 cup of reserved sugar. Fold into nog. Whip cream and fold into nog. Top with freshly grated nutmeg.
